Founded as Society for the Study of Industrial Medicine of India on 9th July 1948. It was renamed as the Indian Association of Occupational Health in the seventies, now popularly called IAOH. Presently IAOH is the largest professional voluntary organization in the country which actively is in the pursuit of best practices and promotion of health & safety at workplace.

About Indian Association of Occupational Health

The Indian Association of Occupational Health (IAOH) was founded a year after India’s independence in 1947. IAOH - India's leading professional body in the development and promotion of occupational health and safety with 3000 members across 23 branches - is the largest such organization amongst developing countries. IAOH is affiliated to the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH). The World Health Organization has accorded the IAOH a partnership status in the area of strengthening Occupational Health in the Asian region. IAOH enjoys consultative status with the Ministry of Labour, Government of India in matters governing occupational health policy.

IAOH’s mission is to be the nodal professional organization committed to attain the highest standards of Occupational & Environmental health in India by enabling stakeholders, including policy makers and creating community consciousness.

The key activities of the IAOH include the following:

Proactively influencing national policies in Occupational and Environmental health through appropriate linkages with concerned ministries and governmental organizations.
Networking with agencies like the DGFASLI, NIOH, ITRC, WHO and ILO to augment research and training in Occupational & Environmental health.
Update knowledge base and skill sets of OH professionals in the country by holding scientific conferences, seminars and updates in the area of Occupational & Environmental health in the country.
Run a professional occupational health journal (IJOEM).
Position papers on contemporary issues in occupational health.
Collaboration with DGFASLI, Ministry of Labour, for celebrating Year of Industrial Safety and Health through 24 branches across the country.
Invited by Ministry of Labour to participate in the conference on ‘National Policy on Safety, Health & Environment’ in November 2003 and gave recommendations.
Arranging National conferences on Occupational health every year for last 72 years.
Organizing national and regional workshops on ‘Developing a Roadmap for Basic Occupational Health Services in India’ since 2008.
Preparing a position paper / guidance document on ‘Achieving BOHS in India’
Publication: “BOHS for Informal Industry: Manual fo Primarycare Professionals”.
